The music of THEY CALLED HIM ZONE combines sultry electronica with chewed-up, modulated guitars; evoking rain-drenched, neon-daubed streets, proscribed chemicals, and black-clad malcontents wearing mirror shades after dark. And it’s always dark where they come from…
Formed in Bradford, UK in early 2016 the band is Mik Davis (vocals, programming), Steve Maloney (guitar, programming, vocals), and Cat McLaughlan (vocals).
Their approach combines a love of post-punk abrasiveness and electronic experimentation with a pop sensibility, albeit one at the darker end of the spectrum.
"... a sound that is different from most in the current rock pool of late... needless to say, we can expect great things from this band..." SA - Stencil Magazine
"... a band creating stunning work whereby they have taken the choice cuts of the past and welded them to the present..." James Fleming - Modern Retro Magazine
A debut EP - Miami - appeared in mid-2016. A mini-album - Crow Swan Wolf - was released at the start of 2017, picking up global airplay among darkwave electro rock aficionados. After a handful of sullen appearances in various dens of iniquity, the band made their festival debut at Infest in 2017. Since then, they have performed at select nights for discerning decadents, including London's Reptile and Leeds' Carpe Noctum.
The band's back catalogue was reissued through Eromeda Records at the end of 2017, followed by a new single, 'Death Drive'. Released in late 2018, 'I Want Love' - with its provocative, YouTube-banned video - is the first in a series of planned digital singles.
